Elsternwick Gable Project is two side by side townhouses that sit in an established residential pocket of Elsternwick. Designed to nestle within the streetscape, the facade harks back to the form of the Californian bungalow which previously occupied the site.
It utilises one single building material to the front facade, using the same brick cut into a tile to form the hipped roof.
The entrance sequence brings you under the pitching point of the hipped roof and as you make your way towards the front door the roof slopes back up towards the sky where a large void forms around the entry point.
The house was designed with the outdoor green pockets in mind. The first room utilises a large cavity sliding door to provide connection to the green open space in the front.
Connection to the garden was paramount, and the design constantly bends and contorts to capture light, space and air from outside.
