Set within a tightly held heritage pocket of South Yarra, this single-fronted Victorian terrace, dating back to 1895, was in urgent need of renewal.

Overview

With natural light as the central design ambition, the transformation centred on crafting a home that feels bright, open and uplifting. Non-original additions were carefully removed to make way for a contemporary extension, defined by generous east- and north-facing glazing. These new openings flood the interiors with daylight, creating a seamless connection to the landscaped rear yard—blurring the line between inside and out.

Drawing on the character of the surrounding ‘hamlet’-like precinct, the design introduces unexpected moments of greenery throughout. Courtyards and green roofs are strategically placed so that every room enjoys a visual relationship to nature, maintaining a light-filled, airy atmosphere year-round.
